Bangladesh recorded their first ever international victory against England ever since their admission in 2000.

England Innings

Bangladesh recorded their first ever victory against England ever since their admission in International Cricket in 2000. England made heavy weather of a modest target to go down by a narrow margin of 5 runs. Chasing 237 on a slightly seaming and turning pitch at Bristol, England was kept under check after losing wickets at regular intervals. The inexperienced Jonathan Trott was the only one going the distance in the innings but in the final over got out cutting a slower one from Shafiul Islam to concede the match to Bangladesh. Trott was the top scorer in the match with a fluent 94 from 130 balls with 8 fours.

England were off to a solid start with 49 for no loss before losing a bunch of wickets to find themselves at 115 for 5. All the Bangladeshi bowlers got something off the pitch which also kept very low at times. Infact five Bangladeshi bowlers captured two wickets each to make an all-round contribution and also sustained the pressure right through. The Man of the Match in the pulsating match was the experienced Mashrafe Mortaza, the Skipper of Bangladesh who picked up two significant wickets towards the end besides scoring 22 with the bat. Former Skipper Shakib Al Hasan was another star with 2 for 40 in 10 overs along with a cool leaping catch at backward point to end a fighting 43-run stand between Trott and Broad for the 8th wicket.

Bangladesh Innings

Bangladesh posted a healthy total of 236 for 7 after being put to bat first by hosts England under cloudy conditions at Bristol. It was all because of a responsible knock of 76 (from 111 balls with 4 fours) from opener Imrul Kayes. The left hander got support from new wicket keeper Jahurul Islam who made 40 in a 3rd wicket stand of 83. For England, new ball bowler Ahmed Shehzad got movement off the pitch which helped him to figures of 3 for 41 in 10 overs. There was some good stifling work in the middle overs by Michael Yardy (10-0-39-0) and Paul Collingwood (5-0-16-1).
