Delhi Capitals beat Kings XI Punjab in the first Super Over in the second match of IPL 2020 on Sunday. The game saw numerous heroes. Delhi’s Marcus Stoinis slammed 53 from 21, and also picked up two wickets in the last over that took the match into the Super Over. Kagiso Rabada then bowled the decisive Super Over, dismissing KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran.

For KXIP, Mayank Agarwal hit 89 off 60 balls balls, and nearly took his side home single-handedly. The game though was no devoid of controversy. In the second last over of Punjab’s run-chase, the umpire signalled a short run. It was the third ball of Rabada’s over. A full-toss outside off was hit towards extra cover region by Agarwal for two.

However, on-field umpire Nitin Menon termed it as a single, signalling that the first run was short one. Replays, however, showed that the run was properly completed, and that the short run call was an erroneous one. Former cricketers and fans slammed the decision.

“I don’t agree with the man of the match choice . The umpire who gave this short run should have been man of the match. Short Run nahin tha. And that was the difference.” wrote former India and KXIP batsman Virender Sehwag.

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan tweeted, “What abt that one short run call????” while ex-New Zealand all-rounder added, Terrible 'one short' decision in tonight's @IPL game. However if you need 1 run off the last 2 balls and don't win... you only have yourself to blame.

“Why can’t we reverse the match result considering short run correction when we all have damn evidences and technology in place. There is still a room to correct it in the spirit of game. Kindly reverse the match result,” a KXIP fan Jaskaran Singh asked on social media.
