India discard Mohammad Kaif scored an unbeaten century as Uttar Pradesh find themselves 38 more runs away from reaching Karnataka's first innings total of 314 at the Jawaharlal Nehru National College of Engineering Ground in Shimoga. UP finished Day 2 at 276 for 6 in 83 overs having bowled out Karnataka for 314 earlier in the day.
UP at one stage were down and out at 172 for 6 and it was a superb effort from Mohammad Kaif (101* from 223 balls with 15 fours) and his partnership with Bhuvneshwar Kumar (52* from 96 balls with 6 fours) that is raising hopes for a crucial first innings lead.
Earlier for Karnataka, overnight batsman Stuart Binny narrowly missed out on a century to finish his knock on 94 which took him just 118 balls with 10 fours and 2 sixes. Swing bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar who struck a lovely half century by the fag end of the day had picked up a five-wicket haul with the ball.
