Sahara Pune Warriors is the name of the team representing the Pune IPL franchisee in the Indian Premier League. Sahara Pune Warriors is one of the two new teams for IPL 2011. Indian Premier League has set new standards of cricket. Though its a domestic cricket form of India in Twenty20 format, but is the second highest-paid league of the world.

The IPL started in 2008 with 8 teams and now from this year, 2011, two new teams have been added to the pool – Pune and Kochi. The Pune IPL team will play its home matches at MCA Pune International Cricket Stadium, Maharashtra Cricket Association, which is currently under construction. Mr. Subrata Roy, chairperson of Sahara Group, had unveiled the team name and logo in April 2010.

It’s the success of IPL worldwide that led Sahara Group to invest in a cricket team of IPL. Beating some big guns of business, the Sahara Group managed to bid this deal in their favor paying $370m. Since the start of IPL in 2008, the market value of the IPL franchisees have risen sharply. The Sahara Pune Warriors is now the most expensive franchisee team of IPL valuing Rs. 1,702 crore. The closest bid for the team was from the Videocon Group. Sahara Group is one of the established groups promoting sports in India. It is apparent that Sahara Group is also the sponsor of Indian Cricket team.

For the fourth season of Indian Premier League, new bidding of players will held. Though, BCCI is seeking some alternatives for the new open bidding, the Sahara Pune Warriors are sure to bid the best players. The Sahara Pune Warriors’ chairperson has also announced their plan to open an International Sports Academy in Amby valley. Sahara India Group, the owners of the IPL franchisee Sahara Pune Warriors have also announced the coaches of the team in a function on July 6, 2010. Geoff Marsh, former Australian Opener and Coach of the Australian team during 1999 world cup will coach the Sahara Pune Warriors. Dermot Reeva, the former England all-rounder has been appointed as assistant coach of Sahara Pune Warriors.

The ambitious chairperson of Sahara India Group, Mr. Roy has revealed his plan for not limiting their players to the Indian Premier League but the players will also visit different countries for playing cricket and promoting the sport. Since the evolution of IPL, it is not just only a sporting event of a country but a profitable business as well, allowing presence worldwide. The IPL franchisee’s major portion of profit comes from brand merchandising. The market value of the teams has increased four fold. The best marketing example of the IPL franchisees’ is Shah Rukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders, IPL franchisee for Kolkata, had earned a market value of $46m in spite of the poor performance of the team in the Indian Premier League. The open bid will let Mr. Roy to choose big names for Sahara Pune Warriors and he has shown interest in bidding for batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar. As it’s not just about cricket but playing for the market for some serious business. The Indian Premier League 2011 will be bigger and better.

Sahara Pariwar has announced to name the New IPL Franchise Team has ”Sahara Pune Warriors” . The new team will be called Pune Warriors in short. There were lot of speculation going on for the choice of name. Our sources revealed that Sahara India Pariwar decided the name on April 15, 2010. The name was decided after long discussion with the team management and directors.
