Final Session, Day 3

India finished the third day's play just 43 runs behind Australia's first innings total of 478! Should the Indians get any sort of lead with five wickets still in hand which includes Tendulkar and Dhoni, then Australia will be under immense pressure in their second innings with the pitch showing plenty of uneven bounce!

Sachin Tendulkar has seen the entire day's play to inch towards a double century. He has marched onto 191 from 319 balls with 20 fours and 2 sixes. Murali Vijay who had a long stand with Tendulkar played a tired backfoot drive in the final session to be caught behind off Mitchell Johnson. Vijay until then had batted out 100.3 overs to score a career best 139 from 310 balls with 14 fours and 2 sixes. He took India from a shaky 38 for 2 to 346 for 3 along with Tendulkar.

Replacing Vijay in the middle was debutant Cheteshwar Pujara who was unlucky to be lbw because of an unplayable short delivery from Johnson which shot extremely low off the turf! India recovered after the twin blow with Suresh Raina battling out against the short pitch stuff to steer India past 400. Raina threw his wicket after dragging a slog off Michael Clarke to mid on having made 32. MS Dhoni with 11* saw the last few overs through with the never tiring Tendulkar.

Afternoon Session, Day 3

The 3rd wicket partnership between Murali Vijay and Sachin Tendulkar has only got better and better and has taken India securely towards 314 for 2 in 91 overs at Tea. The pair added 90 runs in the 30 overs that were bowled in the afternoon session. Vijay was stuck on 99 for a long time but finally got to his maiden Test hundred. Both Sachin and Vijay haven't given it away though they got past their respective centuries. At Tea, Tendulkar has moved onto 141 and Vijay onto 118.

The second new ball was taken just at the stroke of Tea. There were hardly any opportunities in the afternoon session as Tendulkar and Vijay showed great control.

Morning Session, Day 3

Sachin Tendulkar registered his 49th Test century and Murali Vijay is a few runs away from reaching his maiden Test century as India batted beautifully in the first session of Day 3 to reach 224 for 2! The deficit has been cut down to 254 runs. Australia had messed up with an easy run out opportunity which would have seen an early exit of Murali Vijay in the morning. Instead, Vijay has moved on steadily to 73* from 171 balls with 7 fours and a six. The bulk of the scoring was done by Tendulkar who ended the session on 106 from 160 balls with 15 fours and 2 sixes.

Tendulkar smashed his first six over wide long on which took him from 93 to 99 and his second six over long on majestically brought up his 49th Test century! India picked up 96 runs in 26.4 overs in this morning session.
