Half-centuries from openers Jonny Bairstow (51) and Dawid Malan (76) lifted England to 180 for 6, batting first. David Willey (3/27) and Sam Curran (2/14) then ran through the Sri Lankan line-up as they were rolled over for 91 in 18.5 overs. Speaking at the post-match conference, Morgan admitted, "The biggest thing for me out of this series has been our bowling performance. The guys adapted to the conditions extremely well."
"To bowl first 16 overs of all seam today was outstanding. We can't fault the bowlers for anything. Looking towards the T20 World Cup, we're looking to improve our powerplay and death-bowling."
Morgan added that the team has made some great strides and he is proud of the way the guys have performed. He stated, “It's a great opportunity for the guys to stake their claim for the World Cup. We are aware of the capabilities of the players. Today was a great example. It was a hugely commendable opening partnership from Jonny (Bairstow) and Dawid."
Reflecting on the disappointing series, Sri Lanka skipper Kusal Perera said the team were aware they were going to find the going tough in England. He admitted, "We know it was always going to be tough but the batting has not been up to the mark. We are not used to the pace and bounce and the execution was not great and we need to have good back-up plans facing a team like this. We have to take responsibility and play to our strengths and that's the best way to approach these kind of situations."
Malan was named man of the match for his 48-ball 76 while Sam Curran was adjudged as player of the series. The Lankans will look to do better in three-match ODI series, which starts on Tuesday.
