England defeated South Africa by 4 wickets in a tight contest in the third ODI at The Oval in London on Friday. Eoin Morgan was the star of the English victory with a blinder of a knock that carried England home with two overs to spare in a run chase of 212.

England defeated South Africa by 4 wickets in a tight contest in the third ODI at The Oval in London on Friday. Eoin Morgan was the star of the English victory with a blinder of a knock that carried England home with two overs to spare in a run chase of 212.

Batting first after winning the toss, South Africa were bowled out for 211 in 46.4 overs. The visitors had a decent start but lost their way in the middle overs completely. James Anderson did a superb clean up job for the hosts to come up with 4 for 44 in 9.4 overs. Jade Dernbach made an impact taking 3 for 44 in 9 overs. Ravi Bopara with 10-1-31-1 and offie James Eoin MorganTredwell with 10-0-49-2 also bowled splendidly.

England were on the backfoot in the run chase at 64 for 3 in 18 overs before Jonathan Trott and Eoin Morgan sealed the run chase with a solid stand of 108 runs for the 4th wicket. Morgan scored a busy 73 from 67 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes to ensure that England had the required run rate under a check. Jonathan Trott kept his end intact to score what was a slow 71 from 125 balls with 2 fours.

The Proteas fought hard to defend the total of 211 with Wayne Parnell coming up with superb figures of 10-1-23-1. Eoin Morgan was named as the Player of the Match for his wonderful knock. With this victory, England have leveled the 5-ODI Series 1-1. The fourth ODI will be played at Lord’s on September 2nd.
