West Indies 243 & 120/4 (Chanderpaul 34*) trail England 398 (Strauss 122, Bell 61, Trott 58) by 35 runs at Stumps on Day 3, First Investec Test at Lord's

England are smelling victory in the First Investec Test at Lord’s after having West Indies in a bad shape at 120 for 4. The visitors having batted out 50 overs in their second innings are still facing a deficit of 35 runs but with a fine partnership between Shivnarine Chanderpaul (34* from 95 balls with 4 fours) and Marlon Samuels (26* from 65 balls with 4 fours), there is still some hope for survival.

Earlier in the day, West Indies bowled out England for 398 in 113.3 overs a few minutes before Tea. England resuming the third day’s play on 259/3 settled for a first innings lead of 155 runs. Skipper Andrew Strauss added just one more run to his overnight score of 121 before falling to Kemar Roach.

Ian Bell was the top scorer of Day 3 with 61Ian Bell was the top scorer on Day 3 with a neat 61 from 105 balls with 4 fours. Apart from him, Graeme Swann coming in at no.10 scored a useful cameo of 30 from 25 balls to help England get 398. For the visitors, debutant Shannon Gabriel and Kemar Roach took three wickets each.

West Indies by Tea slipped to 36 for 3 in their second innings. In the final session, the tourists lost the wicket of Darren Bravo (21) to Graeme Swann but by stumps ensured that there was no further damage with Chanderpaul and Samuels putting up some resistance.
