Southpaw Gautam Gambhir has cut short his county stint with Essex owing to family reasons. The left-hander has already left to India on Sunday according to the Essex Cricket Board. The 31-year-old who has been dropped from the Indian team was hoping to make an impression in English County. After a poor start, Gambhir bounced back with a century against Gloucestershire.

Gambhir had the opportunity to play in four matches during his maiden county stint which included two games in the LV=County Championship and two games in the Yorkshire 40 tournament. Gambhir recorded scores of 31, 21, 2, 0 and 106 in those matches.

Essex has released a brief statement regarding its India international player which says: “Gautam Gambhir returned to his native India on Sunday for family reasons. At this stage Essex Cricket and Gautam are unable to make any further comment.

Essex Cricket is fully supportive of Gautam and very much hope that he will return to Essex before the end of the 2013 English domestic season.”
