England have lost the big wicket of Alastair Cook in the 17 overs that they had to bat before stumps on Day 2. The hosts are 43 for 1 with Sam Robson (20*) and Gary Balance (15*) at the crease. This was after India’s first innings total of 457 with the English players on the field for 161 overs.

The last two batsmen for India – Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami scored their respective maiden Test fifties to frustrate England. The last wicket pair added as many as 111 runs!

There was plenty of action post lunch as the match took a dramatic turn in favour of England as the visitors lost four wickets for the addition of just two runs in 3.2 overs! Ravindra Jadeja (25) departed first edging a flashy cut off Stokes to the keeper. Skipper MS Dhoni ran himself out on 82 while debutant Stuart Binny was caught driving to backward point off Stokes.

Ishant Sharma was bowled offering no shot to an inducker from Broad to leave India at 346 for 9. The visitors were expected to be bundled out for 350 or so and nobody expected the last wicket pair of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami to come up with this miracle. Kumar scored 58 from 149 balls with 5 fours before he finally got out trying to manufacture a big shot off Moeen Ali.

Mohammed Shami remained unbeaten on 51 from 81 balls with 6 fours and a six. England took as many as 38.1 overs to get the last Indian wicket!

It was a good start with the ball for India as Alastair Cook shuffling far too across his stumps got bowled round his legs by Mohammed Shami in the 4th over. At stumps, England have got the inexperienced pair of Sam Robson (20*) along with the left-handed Gary Balance (15*).

Update at Lunch on Day 2: India is heading towards a solid first innings total at Trent Bridge following a fine morning session on Day 2. The visitors worked hard to collect 83 runs while losing opener Murali Vijay through a wrong lbw decision. At Lunch on Day 2, India are well placed at 342 for 5 in 118 overs.

Murali Vijay batted quite fluently before he was robbed off a potential double century by Umpire Bruce Oxenford. Vijay ended up with 146 (from 361 balls with 25 fours and a six) after he was given lbw to an inducker from Anderson which was sailing over middle.

Vijay’s stand with MS Dhoni was 126 which took India past the 300-run mark. After Vijay’s exit, Ravindra Jadeja took on Moeen Ali’s spin to get off to a flier. At the lunch break, Jadeja is on 24* from 18 balls with two fours and two sixes. Skipper MS Dhoni remained unbeaten on 81 (from 147 balls with 7 fours).

Dhoni should have been dismissed early by Broad but for a dropped catch from Prior. The Indian Captain looked pretty poor with his shot selection and footwork but luckily managed to survive.
