Sunrisers Hyderabad with a weak batting unit came a distant second in their away match against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens. On a good batting track, chasing a high target of 180, the Sunrisers didn’t even compete properly in the contest to settle with a weak total of 132 for 7.

The Sunrisers did get off to a steady start of 57 for 1 in 9 overs which of course was pretty slow in the context of the game. Cameron White, who opened the innings with Parthiv Patel was the only man who looked promising to give the Sunrisers an opportunity to get close to the target but his innings was cut short to 34 from 31 balls. Skipper Kumar Sangakkara continued to have a poor run this season. Fellow Sri Lankan Thisara Perera lived to his reputation but his damage was kept down to a 25-ball 36.

None of the Indian domestic batsmen had the firepower to do anything to help the Sunrisers to match up to KKR’s total. Early on, against a good bowling attack, KKR piled up 180 for 4 thanks to an excellent cameo of 47* from 21 balls from Eoin Morgan. Skipper Gautam Gambhir was the top scorer with a 45-ball 53. Jacques Kallis played well for his 41 from 27 balls. The veteran South African rounded off the evening with miserly figures of 3 for 13 in 4 overs.
