South Africa pulled off a shocking 2-run win over New Zealand to keep their hopes alive in the ICC World T20 2014. Dale Steyn bowled two brilliant spells to help the Proteas stun the Kiwis. With just 7 runs to defend in the final over, Dale Steyn took two wickets and bowled three dot balls while a well set Ross Taylor was stranded at the non-striker’s end!

The Kiwis chasing 171 were off to a good start of 57 in 7.1 overs. Martin Guptill was slow with his 22 from 25 balls but his partner Kane Williamson covered up for him with a lovely knock of 51 from 35 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes.

After Skipper Brendon McCullum was stumped out off Imran Tahir, Williamson along with Ross Taylor got the Kiwis back on track. Taylor smashed 4 fours and 3 sixes in his 37-ball 62 but his calculations went wrong in the final over. All he could get in the final over was the one last ball with three runs to score. A helpless Taylor dragged a slower one back to Steyn.

Dale Steyn finished the match with brilliant figures of 4-0-17-4. JP Duminy was the Man of the Match for his sparkling knock in the first half.

SA innings: JP Duminy produced a dream knock of 86 not out from 43 balls to lift South Africa to 170 for 6 after being asked to bat first by the Kiwis.

It was otherwise a slow and dull start for SA as their batsmen struggled to find any sort of momentum. Hashim Amla consumed 40 balls to score just 41 while the likes of de Kock, Skipper du Plessis and AB de Villiers got out cheaply.

Duminy’s blinder had 10 fours and 3 sixes which single handedly got SA to a superb total.
