When he made his debut in Australia way back in 2003 as a cute and curly teenager, many cricket fans were excited as they though Irfan Pathan was going to be the next Kapil Dev or perhaps the Indian version of Wasim Akram! As time went by, Irfan lost his pace and swing and was struggling to even get tail-enders out. His batting on the other hand was too good for a bowler. But it was the decline in his bowling that left Irfan Pathan in the wilderness for a couple of years. Now he is back though in the Indian team with a slightly modified action and the pace is not bad touching around 132-135 kmph.
Irfan Pathan has done well in his comeback games against the West Indies and now against Sri Lanka in the famous tied match at the Adelaide Oval. Pathan is surely getting the ball to swing back into the right handers which was his chief weapon at the start of his international career. He is not a bad choice for One dayers but surely he is no way near to being a Test Match quality bowler. Whether he is in the side or not, whether he is bowling well or not, Irfan Pathan has always had a large fan following!
