Australia defeated West Indies by 8 wickets with 11 balls to spare in the First T20I at the Beausejour Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia. Batting first after winning the toss, West Indies were restricted to 150 for 7 with Brett Lee taking 2 for 30 and Daniel Christian chipping in with 3 for 27. Kieron Pollard smashed 54 from just 26 balls with 2 fours and 5 sixes to help his side to some sort of respectability.
Australia lost David Warner in the first over itself for a duck to left arm quick Krishmar Santokie. But a 108-run stand for the 2nd wicket between Shane Watson (69 from 43 balls with 5 fours and 6 sixes) and Michael Hussey (59* from 45 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes) laid the foundation for an easy win. Skipper George Bailey remained unbeaten on 21 (from 17 balls with 2 fours) as Australia wrapped up victory in 18.1 overs.
Shane Watson who bowled well for his 4-0-16-1 and then followed it up with an explosive 69 from 43 balls got the Man of the Match award.
