India tour of England, 2nd ODI: England vs India at Southampton, Sep 6, 2011.
Put in to bat by England in a rain-curtailed 23-over second ODI, Parthiv Patel took India off to a flier with an 18-ball 28 but was sent back by James Anderson here at The Rose Bowl on Tuesday.
Parthiv took off from the word go and made his intentions clear when he hit Tim Bresnan for two sixes in a 16-run over. But pick of the bowlers James Anderson got his man caught behind as a confused Parthiv (28) walked back deciding not to question the nick.
Earlier, after a delay of close to five hours, rain allowed the toss to take place, which was won by England who put India in to bat in the second ODI that is reduced to a 23-over game here at The Rose Bowl on Tuesday.
England skipper Alastair Cook had no hesitation whatsoever to bowl first, with Graeme Swann back in the side at the expense of Jonathan Trott. Ravi Bopara too got a look in at the expense of Eoin Morgan who has been ruled out for the series due to a sore shoulder.
MS Dhoni had to make an injury-forced change, with ManojTiwary taking the place of Rohit Sharma who has returned back home after fracturing his finger in the first ODI.
As per the revised playing conditions, there will be nine overs of powerplay: five mandatory and two each for batting and bowling sides. Three bowlers can bowl a maximum of five overs each and two others can bowl four apiece.
Of course the ground staff is hopeful that the weather will go away at around 4pm and they will need another hour and a half to get the ground ready after that. By the wayit's not raining at the moment, and the ground staff are hard at work. Those heavy winds might actually help us get a game tonight
