Fantasy cricket platform Dream 11 has bagged the prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 title sponsorship rights with a winning bid of Rs 222 crore. Dream 11 left behind Unacademy (Rs 171 crore) and Byju's (Rs 201 crore) to bag the rights for the annual cricketing bonanza. The deal between BCCI and Dream 11 will be in place from August 18 to December 31, 2020.

Earlier, VIVO had signed a five-year deal with BCCI in 2018 for a whopping Rs 2,199 crore, through which BCCI earned approximately Rs 440 crore per season. However, VIVO had to pull out as title sponsor for this season owing to the troubled relations between India and China.

As per the revenue sharing agreement between BCCI and IPL franchise owners in 2018, the franchises earned 50 percent income from the central rights. This includes broadcast, title and other sponsorship deals of BCCI. So, Rs 111 crore will be divided between the franchises for this season. With VIVO, this amount was Rs 220 crore.

According to a report in Moneycontrol, Tata Sons, which was seen among the top contenders, did not bid for the title rights. Last year, Dream11 became an official partner of the Indian Premier League. Dream 11 has also been associated with the T10 Vincy Premier League in the Caribbean, which was among the first cricket tournaments played following the forced break due to COVID-19.

IPL 2020, which was initially scheduled to be held from March 29 in India, will now be played from September 19-November 10 in the UAE, in a bio-secure environment, owing to the Coronavirus pandemic.
