The Sri Lankan team management has rubbished the rumors that its premier batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan has tested positive for a banned substance in a dope test conducted by the ICC in the ongoing World Cup.
Confirming the news, Mahela Jayawardene too confirmed that the ICC had selected only Ajantha Mendis and Chamara Silva for the dope test and felt that the rumor was spread to harm the team’s morale ahead of the Thursday’s match against Zimbabwe.
Brian Thomas, the Sri Lankan team’s media manager has confirmed that Dilshan was not among the players chosen for ICC’s dope test. The confirmation comes as a sigh of relief for the Sri Lankan fans as the loss of Dilshan would have not only hampered Sri Lanka’s chances in the World Cup but also would have done a lot of damage to the team’s morale.
Earlier, there was a buzz in the Sri Lankan media that Dilshan had tested positive for drugs, which would have made him only the second in World Cup cricket after Shane Warne to do so.
