England have drawn first blood in the 5-Test Ashes Series 1-0 by winning the Second Test at Adelaide by an innings and 71 runs. Australia's troubles began on the first day when they were bundled out for 245 in 85.5 overs after winning the toss and electing to bat first. James Anderson was the bowling hero taking 4 for 51 in 19 overs. There were three half centuries in the Australian innings - Shane Watson (51), Michael Hussey (93) and Brad Haddin (56).
The visitors took total control of the match once they had Australia dismissed for a modest total. Alastair Cook cashed in on his rich form to score 148 while Jonathan Trott came up with 78. The Aussies then were pounded by Kevin Pietersen who smashed them for a 308-ball 227 which contained 33 fours and a six. Ian Bell was another batsman amongst the run scoring 68. England declared its first innings on the fourth day at 620 for 5 in 152 overs.
Australia facing a huge deficit of 375 runs could hold fort for 99.1 overs before getting bowled out for 304. There was a bit of rain interruption on the fourth day evening but it didn't last long enough to help Australia towards a draw. There were once again three half centuries from the hosts - Shane Watson with 57, Michael Clarke with 80 and Michael Hussey with 52. Graeme Swann was the most successful bowler for England capturing 5 for 91 in 41.1 overs. Pietersen got the Man of the Match for his batting heroics.
