Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by 21 runs at Gros Islet in the Group A Match

Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by 21 runs at Gros Islet in the Group A Match. Having posted 172 on the board, Pakistan removed the dangerous Tamim Iqbal cheaply. Bangladesh staged a nice fightback through Mohammad Ashraful (65 from 49 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes) and Skipper Shakib Al Hasan (47 from 31 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes). The two batsmen put on 91 runs for the third wicket but couldn't provide the finishing for Bangladesh.

The Tigers lost three crucial wickets in succession which included Shakib Al Hasan (caught at long off in Sami's bowling), Mahmudullah (slicing a cut to point) and Ashraful (not getting hold of an improvisation shot) to find themselves out of the contest. Pakistan always had the quality in its bowling through the combination of pace and spin to successfully defend the target. For Bangladesh, they left too many runs to get in the last few overs and there wasn't any fire power left for them.

Salman Butt, who scored a rapid 73 got the Man of the Match award. The left hander had set up the match in Pakistan's favour through a massive opening stand with Kamran Akmal.
