Shaun Marsh celebrated his recall to Australia's One-Day International side with a century that helped them recover from 33 for four and 142 for eight to score 230 against England in the second match in Hobart.

Marsh made 110 in 114 balls, hitting eight fours and two sixes, to steer Australia out of trouble, sharing significant partnerships with Cameron White and Doug Bollinger.

England's decision having won the toss to field first looked a good one as new-ball pairing Ajmal Shahzad (3-43) and Chris Tremlett (3-22) made quick inroads to the Australian top order.

Shahzad bowled openers Shane Watson and Brad Haddin - both for five and after Tim Bresnan had Michael Clarke (10) caught by Michael Yardy, Tremlett had David Hussey caught by Andrew Strauss for eight to leave Australia in trouble.

However, the fightback was launched by Cameron White, who made a patient 45 in 76 balls, and Marsh, and the pair added 100 for the fifth wicket.

Yardy dismissed White caught and bowled and the cheap dismissals of Steve Smith (0), Nathan Hauritz (2) and Brett Lee (0) gave England hope of dismissing Australia for well under 100.

They were foiled once again by Marsh, who reached his second ODI century in partnership with Bollinger, who scored a career-best 30 (his previous best was three) as the pair added 88 in quick time for the ninth wicket.

Tremlett finally removed both with consecutive deliveries as England were set 231 to level the series.

Australia won the opening match in the seven-game series by six wickets thanks to Watson's unbeaten 161 in Melbourne.
