The Pune Warriors’ hopes of winning a maiden Indian Premier League title this April have suffered a major shock after news emerged from Australia that opening batsman Michael Clarke will be out for the entire tournament.
This is only the third time Pune Warriors India would be participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) so they would be at a distinct disadvantage compared to some other franchises, who have been part of the league since its inception.
Pune Warriors who lost their Captain Michael Clarke due to a back injury even before the IPL 6 has kicked off have named Angelo Mathews as their new Skipper. This move from Pune Warriors was expected as Angelo Mathews is also the new Captain of the Sri Lankan team in all formats of the game.
Michael Clarke, the Australian Captain who had missed out in the fourth and final Test against India at Delhi has ruled himself out of the upcoming IPL 6. Clarke has suffered a recurring back injury and a hamstring injury which will keep him out of action for 7-10 weeks.
