Relentless rain washed out the opening day's play at Mohali without a single ball bowled.

Update at 1:00 PM: Just can’t believe that play can be called off so early with a few more hours to go before the scheduled close! Well that is the reality of Day 1 at Mohali, abandoned without a ball bowled midway through what would have been the afternoon session because of relentless rain. The toss is yet to happen and the Test match has been reduced to a 4-day affair although the game would start 30 minutes early every day.

Update at 12:00 PM: Not good at all for the match to begin, it has actually rained since the last update and more rain is expected to arrive at this venue this afternoon. The scheduled inspection at 12:00 PM will not yield any positive results because of the rain.

Update at 11:20 AM: Although the rain has eased down, conditions continue to be very overcast and dark. The Australian team has arrived at the ground while the Indians haven’t come yet. Lunch will be taken at 11:30 and the Umpires will inspect again at 12:00 PM. More rain is expected though by this afternoon and there is plenty of work to do for the groundstaff.

Update at 10:00 AM: It has stopped raining at Mohali and the groundstaff would need a minimum of two hours to dry up the ground. The match will start 30 minutes early every day, i.e. at 9:00 AM to make up for the lost time.

Update at 9:00 AM: Persistent rain since five hours has delayed the start of the 3rd Test match between India and Australia at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. It is still raining at the time of this update and the conditions remain to be very gloomy overhead. The match is likely to start somewhere in the afternoon once the rain stops completely.
