Fast bowlers Mitchell Starc and James Pattinson claimed four wickets each as Australia did extremely well to bowl out hosts Somerset for 320 on the opening day’s play of their 4-day tour match at Taunton. Only three batsmen got going for Somerset which included English Test opener Nick Compton who scored 81 (from 144 balls with 13 fours).

Scorecard

The real star of the Somerset innings was Chris Jones, who scored 130 from 239 balls with 21 fours and 2 sixes. It was a maiden first-class century for the 22-year-old Chris Jones. Apart from him and Compton, middle order batsman James Hildreth scored 66 (from 93 balls with 10 fours). Five Somerset batsmen were dismissed for ducks while only three batsmen got into double digit scores!

Apart from Starc and Pattinson, there was a wicket each for James Faulkner and Nathan McLyon. Australia batted out the one over before stumps without any casualty. For the Aussies, this tour match is extremely important as Michael Clarke is testing his back which has kept him out of action for a long time.
