The BCCI has revamped the Ranji Trophy from this season by getting rid of the Elite and Plate leagues. Starting from this 2012/13 season, the Ranji Trophy will see 27 teams divided into three groups of nine each. The top three teams from Groups A and B along with the top two teams from Group C will feature in the Quarter Finals.
The top teams mostly of the Elite League in the previous season are divided into Group A and B. Group C is filled up with the teams of the Plate League in the previous season, so the competition level in this Group is slightly lower than Group A and B.
While the premium domestic tournament in India begins on November 2nd, the Finals will be held on January 26th.
Below are the three Groups of the Ranji Trophy 2012/13:
Group A: Rajasthan, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Madhya Pradesh, Saurashtra, Railways, Bengal, Punjab, Gujarat
Group B: Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha, Delhi, Baroda, Odisha
Group C: Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Services, Tripura, Goa, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Assam
