Delhi Daredevils, who dominated much of this season’s IPL 5, crashed to a miserable 86-run defeat in the hands of defending Champions Chennai Super Kings. It’s now going to be a CSK Vs KKR Final in IPL 5 with the match scheduled to be played day after tomorrow at this same venue in Chepauk. This is now the fifth time in four years that the Chennai Super Kings are going to play in an IPL Final!

Chasing a Himalayan target of 223 from just 20 overs, Delhi Daredevils were never in the contest. CSK on a roll bowled them out in 16.5 overs for just 136. Off Spinner R Ashwin tossed the ball up generously to capture three wickets in 3.5 overs. The rest of the bowlers also got amongst the wickets as CSK completely routed the Delhi Daredevils.

The only consolation for the Delhi Daredevils was the knock of 55 (from 38 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes) from Mahela Jayawardene, who opened the batting instead of Skipper Sehwag. For the Daredevils, the three big stars – David Warner, Virender Sehwag and Ross Taylor, all flopped under the huge pressure. Murali Vijay was the obvious choice for the Man of the Match award as his century had given Delhi Daredevils with zero chances of winning this second qualifier.

Murali Vijay’s sensational hundred bats out Daredevils from the contest:

Murali VijayMurali Vijay found form with a dazzling century as the Chennai Super Kings piled up a massive total of 222 for 5 in the 2nd Qualifier against the Delhi Daredevils at Chepauk. This is Vijay’s 2nd IPL century and it took him just the 51 balls to get the three figures.

Vijay got out only in the final ball of the innings after destroying Delhi Daredevils with his 113 from 58 balls with as many as 15 fours and 4 sixes. Delhi Daredevils suffered because of their poor selection. In the absence of Morne Morkel, the bowling attack looked paper thin although Umesh Yadav came up with respectable figures of 4-0-27-1! Sunny Gupta, the off-spinner, who took the place of the injured Irfan Pathan was clobbered for 47 runs in his 3 overs! Poor Varun Aaron, who consistently clocked speeds of nearly 150 kmph went for 63 runs in his 4 overs besides taking a couple of wickets.

While Vijay controlled one end, the other batsmen had the freedom to throw their bats around to score cameos. Skipper MS Dhoni with 23 (from 10 balls with a four and 2 sixes) and Dwayne Bravo with 33* (from 12 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes) did entertain the crowd with their brilliant hitting.

Toss and Teams Update: Virender Sehwag, Captain of Delhi Daredevils has won the toss and asked Chennai Super Kings to bat first in the 2nd Qualifier of IPL 5 at the M Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk. Delhi Daredevils have made two big changes which could dent them with Morne Morkel and Irfan Pathan missing out for reasons only known to the team management. In their place come West Indian all-rounder Andre Russell and Sunny Gupta. Chennai super Kings have gone in with the same team that defeated Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator.
