Hosts Sri Lanka had an easy outing against one of the tournament favourites West Indies in a warm-up match held today at the Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground in Colombo. West Indies didn’t quite play its strongest team with Chris Gayle not figuring in the game.
Asked to bat first after losing the toss, West Indies were restricted to a below par total of 132 for 6. The top score came from no.3 Johnson Charles, who made 30 from 26 balls. All the Lankan bowlers played their role in strangling the West Indian batsmen.
The Lankans then smashed the target in just 15.4 overs losing the lone wicket of rookie opener Dilshan Munaweera (24 from 22 balls). His opening partner, Tillakaratne Dilshan remained unbeaten with 50 (from 38 balls with 5 fours and a six) along with Skipper Mahela Jayawardene who got 57* (from 35 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes).
