Three Stars To Look Out For In The Hundred In 2022

Published on: Jan 25, 2022

One of the most exciting new cricket tournaments in the United Kingdom was established in 2021, as the inaugural Hundred showcased the sport to a brand new audience. The first edition of the competition was a huge success, with the ECB announcing that 55% of those that attended a game during the competition were first-time visitors to the cricket.

Meanwhile, former England woman’s captain Charlotte Edwards admitted that the tournament had changed the landscape of the women’s game forever. Following on from the hugely successful tournament in 2021, it is expected that The Hundred will be returning in 2022. But, which players should we be most excited about seeing?

Liam Livingstone

Liam Livingstone’s stock was extremely high before the start of The Hundred, as he hit his first T20I century in a match against Pakistan. His reputation continued to sore, as he broke records for the fastest 50 and fastest 100 for England before the start of The Hundred. His tremendous form continues last summer with the Birmingham Phoenix, as he was by far and away the highest run scorer in the competition.

Livingstone hit 348 runs, which was nearly 100 more than the next best. The English star hit a top-score of 92*, and averaged a staggering 58 runs per match for the Phoenix. Once again, he will be one of the stars of the show this summer, as the Birmingham Phoenix will be among the favourites to go one better and win the tournament in the bet on cricket markets.

Jemimah Rodrigues

The Hundred’s ability to shine a light on the women’s game last summer was one of the most pleasing aspects. It wasn’t just English players that were given an opportunity to shine either, as some of the world’s most exciting young players from around the world were in action. One of the brightest stars in the women’s tournament last summer was India international Jemimah Rodrigues.

The 21-year-old has played for the national side since 2018, and has scored 976 runs in 47 matches in WT20I competition. She continued to show that kind of form with the Northern Superchargers last year, scoring 249 runs in just seven innings. She averaged 41.50 runs per game, and hit a high-score of 92, which was the highest of any of the top five batters in the women’s competition.

Rashid Khan

Despite the Trent Rockets being eliminated in the eliminator of The Hundred in 2021, they still boasted one of the stars of the tournament. Rashid Khan is one of the most celebrated cricketers of this generation, having paved out a career for himself despite coming from a nation with no cricketing infrastructure. Khan made history by taking the best bowling figures in a ODI match for an associate nation in 2017, and later topped the ICC player Rankings, becoming the youngest player to achieve that feat.

The 23-year-old was as dominant as ever with the ball during The Hundred, as he took 12 wickets from the seven games that he played. That tally saw him end the competition as the joint-highest wicket taker. He allowed an average of 19.25 runs, and had an economy of 8.15.
