Lasith Malinga’s Ruhuna Royals crushed the Jehan Mubarak led Uthura Rudras by a thumping margin of 35 runs in a reduced contest of 16 overs a side on Tuesday night.

Asked to bat first by Jehan Mubarak, Ruhuna Royals got off to a splendid start of 97 in 10.5 overs with openers Gihan Rupasinghe (50 from 35 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes) and Aaron Finch (65 from 48 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes) scoring fifties.

The Ruhuna Royals’ innings was interrupted twice because of rain and ultimately it was reduced to 16 overs. Ruhuna settled with a superb total of 145 for 3.

Lasith MalingaThe target for Uthura Rudras was even more difficult as it was adjusted to 154 from 16 overs using the D/L Method. Any firepower that the Rudras had in their batting line-up was demolished by Lasith Malinga, who went onto capture 4 for 21.

Uthura Rudras put up no show at all as they finished the match tamely at 118 all out in 15.5 overs. The top scorer of the innings was Farveez Maharoof, who got 32 (from 17 balls with a four and three sixes). Lasith Malinga as expected received the Player of the Match award.
