Former India captain Rahul Dravid opines that the presence of wicket-taking bowlers will make a big difference in India’s campaign at the 2019 World Cup. According to Dravid, with the tournament expected to be a high-scoring one, the team with which takes wickets in the middle overs will have a significant benefit.
"In a World Cup, I believe, having experienced some of the conditions in England last year with the A tour, it would be a high scoring World Cup. And in a high scoring WC, having bowlers who can take wickets in the middle will be very important. I think India is lucky in that regard," Dravid was quoted as saying in a PTI report.
"People like Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. We have got bowlers who can take wickets. Teams that are taking wickets through those middle-overs in those high scoring games have a better chance of restricting the opposition," he further explained.
India is among the favorites to lift the cup along with hosts England and defending champions Australia. However, India goes into the World Cup having lost their last ODI series to Australia at home. Before that, though they tasted success in Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand. Dravid believes these wins should stand them in good stead.
"I think we have had a couple of really good years leading to the World Cup. For the right reasons, we are No. 2 in the World and that actually means that we have consistently produced some successful results in the last two and a half years. We can be hopeful.
"I think it's going to be a tough World Cup. Every team comes well prepared and wants to compete. Everyone at the World Cup will be putting their best foot forward," Dravid went on to state. The former skipper also went on to praise Virat Kohli for reinventing himself time and again and MS Dhoni for the manner in which he handles the pressure in big games and tournaments.
The World Cup kicks off on May 30 with the final to be played on July 14 at Lord's.
