Lasith Malinga captured his 6th five-wicket haul to bowl Sri Lanka to a narrow 12-run win over Pakistan in the opening match of Asia Cup 2014. Chasing 297, Pakistan batsmen blew hot and cold right through their innings.

Malinga struck at the right time in the final overs to skittle out the Pakistanis for 284 in 48.5 overs on a slow and low pitch at Fatullah. Skipper Misbah-ul-Haq and Umar Akmal’s lovely knocks went in vain for Pakistan.

SL innings Update: Lahiru Thirimanne scored his 2nd ODI Century to help Sri Lanka compile 296 for 6 in the opening match of the Asia Cup 2014 against Pakistan. The pitch at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah looks absolutely flat. It seems that the Pakistani bowlers had done a good job in keeping the Lankan total under a check.

For Sri Lanka, Lahiru Thirimanne, who opened the batting top scored with 102 from 110 balls with 11 fours and a six. Kumar Sangakkara at no.3 scored 67 from 65 balls with 8 fours while Skipper Angelo Mathews took care of the slog overs with an unbeaten 55 from 50 balls with 5 fours and a six.
