India's lead spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been ruled out of the final Test against Australia which will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground starting Thursday.

Ashwin suffered a side strain at Adelaide but hasn't recovered since, and has missed all the Tests since. In his absence, Ravindra Jadeja is likely to retain his place in the playing eleven.

"It's unfortunate that he's had two niggles that are quite similar in the last two away tours," said skipper Virat Kohli in a News18 report

"He's very important for sure. In Test cricket he's a vital part of this team and we wanted him to be 100 percent fit for a longer period to that he can come back to us in the Test format. He is very disappointed that he's not able to recover in time," Kohli went on to add.

It must be noted that India will also need to replace Rohit Sharma, who is heading back to Mumbai to be with his wife who have birth to a daughter.
