The sixth edition of the Indian Premier League – IPL 2013 will begin on the 3rd of April. The tournament will feature as many as 76 matches with 9 teams taking part. The tournament is scheduled to end on the 26th of May.
PepsiCo are the new title sponsors of the IPL after the withdrawal of real estate giants DLF who were the title sponsors for six straight seasons. The sixth edition of the IPL will see a new team – the Sunrisers Hyderabad who will be making their tournament debut. The Sunrisers Hyderabad are the replacement of Deccan Chargers, the Hyderabad franchisee which was terminated due to financial issues.
The IPL Governing Council has released the Schedule of the tournament with 11 venues hosting the matches. IPL 6 is likely to feature players from Pakistan as well with the player auction expected to be held in January 2013. As we know, a number of players were released by various franchisees and the initial squads were announced. The released players will go into the auction in January 2013.
Following are the teams taking part in Pepsi IPL 6: Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Daredevils, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Pune Warriors India, Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore
The tournament format remains the same with the nine teams playing against each other twice at home and away venues. The top four teams will qualify for the play-offs which includes two qualifiers and an eliminator. The Final of the IPL 6 will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on the 26th of May.
Defending Champions Kolkata Knight Riders will open the tournament at their home venue – the Eden Gardens hosting the Delhi Daredevils on the 3rd of April. The timetable for the matches is the same as it was in the previous editions with the first match of the day at 4 PM and the second match following it at 8 PM.
