Cricket News sort by Sri Lanka Vs Pakistan 3rd Test at Pallekele - Jul 8-12, 2012

The Third and Final Test at Pallekele ended in a draw as Sri Lanka despite getting to a strong position at the start of the final session dropping its plans of pushing for a victory.

Rangana Herath’s late blows brought Sri Lanka strongly back in the Pallakele Test as Pakistan ended Day 4 on a disappointing note with a lead of 188 runs with just two wickets in hand. This was despite a century from Azhar Ali and half centuries from Hafeez and Asad Shafiq.

Sri Lanka are in the driver’s seat in the Pallekele Test thanks to a heroic knock from Thisara Perera followed up by an early Pakistani wicket. By the close of play on Day 3, Pakistan are 27 for 1 in 6 overs having conceded a first innings lead of 111 runs.

Rain played spoilsport in the Pallekele Test by ruining the entire second day’s play.

The first day of the Pallekele Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan produced a wonderful contest, with the ball dominating the bat right from the word go. If at the SSC batsmen made merry, things were exactly the opposite at Pallekele.

Pakistan’s diminutive Wicket Keeper Adnan Akmal suffered a hairline fracture yesterday while handling a nasty rising delivery from Dilhara Fernando.

Pakistan hold a definite advantage in the Pallekele Test after reducing Sri Lanka to 44 for 3 by the close of Day 1. It was a strong fightback from the Pakistanis led by left arm quick Junaid Khan after the visitors were bundled out for 226.

With rain around at Pallekele as well, a draw seems the most likely result in the third Test too. If indeed the rain gods allow enough play to take place for a result to be possible, Pakistan would be looking forward to their pacers to do some damage, and give the visitors a realistic chance of squaring the series.
