David Warner and Jonny Bairstow starred with the bat as the Sunrisers Hyderabad posted 201. For the Kings XI Punjab, it was Pooran who fought a lone battle with a sparkling 77, but with little support from his fellow batsmen, his side lost the match by 69 runs.

Warner and Bairstow got SRH off to yet another flier. KXIP were low on confidence and it was evident in the field. Their skipper dropped Bairstow in the 4th over, though it was a tough chance but an easy one for a fielder of his calibre. With the score at 52-0 after 5, Punjab went to their “mystery” spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who was playing his first IPL match this year. Mujeeb kept the scoring rate down but Bishnoi was slammed for 18 runs in his first over by Bairstow. While Warner wasn’t having the best of strike rates, Bairstow was smoking sixes for fun.

Chasing a big score, Punjab needed their openers to fire. But that wasn’t going to be the case as Mayank Agarwal was run out courtesy some smart fielding from Warner. Simran Singh was promoted to number three and struck a couple of boundaries before perishing to Khaleel. Pooran then came to partner his skipper at the crease. Rahul was down and out given his team’s recent results, and was caught by Williamson for a 16 ball 11.

The under-firing Maxwell came to bat and was cautious in his approach, as Pooran went berserk. He slammed 28 runs off Samad’s first over as Punjab breathed a sigh of relief. The required rate was hovering around 10 runs per over, even as Rashid was going through his overs quickly without giving anything. Maxwell continued his poor run in IPL as he was run out by Priyam Garg. Pooran was standing tall amidst the ruins as he got to a 16 ball fifty.

Mandeep was outsmarted by Rashid’s googly as the required rate kept on climbing up. Rashid wasn’t done for the night as he came back to nearly close out the game with a double wicket maiden, getting Pooran and Shami. With not much batting left in the bank, Natarajan picked the final two wickets as KXIP folded for 132.
